Ambanis to Open Two Tech Schools

Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani has disclosed plans to create a network of research-led educational institutions in India in the field of information technology and communications.

He announced this at the First Convocation of the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DAIICT) held at Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

DAIICT is a research-led educational institute for Information and Communication Technology and has disciplines such as multi-media, robotics, automation and bioinformatics. It has been conferred the status of a university.

Set up in a 50 acre campus in Gandhinagar, DAIICT offers graduate, post-graduate and doctoral programs in ICT, IT in agriculture and digital media. DAIICT started its B.Tech (ICT) program in August 2001, three postgraduate programs - M.Tech (ICT), MS (IT) and MS (IT Agri) - in July 2002 and a Masters in Digital Multi-Media program in July 2004.

At the first convocation, degrees were awarded to 30 MTech, 47 MS (IT) and 18 MS (IT Agri) students.

Sibal gave away the President’s gold medals to toppers of the respective programs - Mehta Shalin, Badreshkumar, Gajjar, Mrugesh Rajeshkumar and Vipperla Ravi Chander Nagendra for the M.Tech program, Varun Vasukuttan Nair for the MS (IT) program and M Vinod Kumar for the MS (IT in Agriculture) program.
